The Journey Continues!

"Market" eats up your soul!

The 0ne Rupee Film Project is an independent and ultra-low-budget crowd-funded feature length docu-fiction out of India. The makers of the film had to go through a 474 day long fundraising campaign. They asked for a minimum contribution of one rupee from everyone they came across. Thus, 2,90,000 Indian rupees could be raised to complete the production and the initial stages of post-production. The film is titled Aashmani Jawaharat aka Diamonds in the Sky but the campaign had been so huge that it is still popularly recognized as the one rupee film.

The books of this series contains stories, backgrounds and experiences the makers of the 0ne Rupee Film Project had during this extra-ordinary journey of theirs. If you are interested in what kind of reality the marginal independent filmmakers have to face or what unique face of reality they see everyday, this book will surely amuse you.

The author has communicated his views very clearly and you can see the passion in his writings. The philosophical writings are very sound and one tends to keep reading. Well written!

This short little book is not a crowd pleaser. And that’s the whole point. As the author Anamitra Roy says: “This volume is about the theory, which is of no use to most of you. Only people like us can make any sense out of it…”

This book is a real gem.Now what is a gem? Gem is mainly used in making ornaments.Nowadays “independent filmmaking” is like cheap citygold ornaments.Everyone wants them and most of them want citygold because they can’t afford real gold or diamond. But true “independent filmmaking” is a different league altogether. It has it’s own language, setup. It does not have a fake “citygoldish” language. So I strongly recommend this book to all those indie enthusiasts to get the real taste of independence in filmmaking. The language is very lucid as well as the writing style. This is high time we have a reality check and not bedazzled by the fake gems.

Educative and Inspiring a bit quirky!

If you want to learn about the film making business this might be a good beginning; if you have no clue how the Indian film industry works this book will enlighten you too. I found it educative and inspiring although it is a bit quirky!
