In these modern times you are increasingly being faced with more and more problems and issues to cope with. Not all of these problems are purely medical. Many people have with all sorts of emotional, psychological and social difficulties. Often there are parts of your life which are making you unhappy and sometimes you may need a little help.
There is often one problem which causes you continuing distress and disruption and which seems to intrude into every aspect of your life – a lack of confidence.
People think that if they could improve their self-confidence, their relationships with others would be better, their work would be easier, and their entire lives more fulfilled.
Perhaps this is the one part of our lives we would all like to see improved. After all, no-one always feels completely at ease all of the time. No-one is always relaxed. For some people, that can be a minor discomfort, but for others it can be a cause of great distress and embarrassment. It can ruin their lives. But does it need to?
Confidence can be improved. We can all learn to be more confident, to 'gain in confidence'. If you ever feel that you are lacking in confidence, then this book has been written for you.
Some people are born confident. Others are born not so confident, and for them the world can be a hostile and difficult place. Some people who have always considered themselves to be confident have suddenly found that they are not as confident as they thought. Confidence can be lost after some unpleasant event such as a divorce or perhaps a psychiatric illness or sudden unemployment. There are many events in this life which can make us lose confidence in ourselves.
Confidence is not always the same. At different times, we feel confident or we may not, there are situations in which we are confident and situations in which we are not. Confidence can be elusive. And yet we are surrounded by confident people, or rather by people who seem to be confident. In our society it is a much prized attribute. If we are in business we are supposed to exude confidence. If we are teachers we need confidence if we are to stand in front of a class. No matter what our occupation, no matter where we live, we are expected to have confidence. Our society has almost made it into a cult.
No doubt much of the popularity of James Bond is due to his total command of every situation and the obvious confidence he displays at all times.
We need confidence, but can we really improve on our self-confidence?
Can we really make our lives more enjoyable, or is that just an unattainable dream?
Confidence can be improved. We can learn to be more confident. But we have to go about it the right way; we have to work at it. We have to make an effort, and if that effort is well-directed we can make tremendous improvements in our confidence and thus in our sense of well-being. We can get more enjoyment out of our lives, more fulfilment, more pleasure. That is worth working for.
In this book I will show you ways of improving your confidence. I will help you to help yourself. There is no need for you to feel uncomfortable, isolated and alone for much of your life. We all have great resources we often don't fully use. If you feel that you are sometimes lacking in confidence it is time you did something about it. Why not start now?
