Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's #1 New York Times Bestselling 2005 book, Team of Rivals; directed by Steven Spielberg; and featuring a star-studded cast, Lincoln is destined for greatness. The film, which will hit theaters in December 2012, examines the most turbulent period of our sixteenth president's leadership: Lincoln's efforts to pass the Thirteenth Amendment in the House of Representatives against the backdrop of the Civil War.This unique making-of book will begin by presenting a popular historical narrative that focuses on the main storyline depicted in the film. It will also build on what is covered in the film, including more extensive information about the issues and events of the time while describing important related topics that could not be accommodated or fully explored in the script. The second part of the book will focus on the filmmakers and the craft they used to bring Lincoln's story to life. Its main theme will be the effort to create authenticity and to depict Lincoln as a living, working, feeling man struggling with the most dramatic and defining issues of American history. Accompanied by onset photography and development art, the text will employ relevant quotes from the filmmakers as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes details. A rich portrait of America's maturation, this book will be a necessary addition to the collections of history buffs and film buffs alike!

First, the positive. The book itself is beautiful. Classy dust jacket, and nicely textured boards underneath for the binding. On the cover, “Lincoln” is lightly imprinted though not embossed in any different color, thus preserving a more professional feel. Pages are printed on thicker paper and there is no shortage of beautiful photographs. Indeed, virtually every page has one or two photographs or illustrations, if not more. At over 200 pages, the quality of this book is apparent in its size and presentation. A top notch publication.

I Love This Film and this book is excellent. The photography in this book is wonderful too. Looking through it makes me want to watch the movie again. The book has lots of information about the historical characters portrayed in the film and the history of the times as well, which really adds a lot to it when watching the film. Was really pleased how inexpensive the price of the book was when I brought it. Well worth it. A fine edition to my Lincoln library.

I have not been able to put this book down ,I have it by my chair right now . I have always liked anything that had to do with Lincoln. I wish there was more on the filming of the movie, but I like what is in the book. This movie like Lincoln will live forever.
Far and away the best of all the "Companion" books I’ve seen!

“Companion” books have become quite popular in recent years – books written specifically as companions to films, documentaries or mini-series’. Just as with any other sub-genre, they can vary in quality, depending on the amount of effort and care and creativity taken with each. I’ve purchased quite a few, especially ones connected to the work of documentarian Ken Burns – but this one is far and away the best I’ve ever seen! In all seriousness, I recommend that people see the film first – in an actual movie theater – and then make sure that you buy this book! It will be the most read book to ever rest on your coffee table – the organization, the layout, the photography, dozens of keenly interesting quotes from interviews with everyone connected with the masterful film – and lots of historical information make this a must purchase as far as I’m concerned – but again – see the film first – you will not regret it!!
Superb Lincoln Glimpse!

This was an extremely insightful and deeply moving portrait of one of the most loved “great men” in history. It’s often dark tenor and moody visuals are perfectly offset by almost wickedly funny humor. The acting is superlative throughout. I unequivocally recommend this experience!

History and film making mixed together. I enjoy this type of set up when it has to do with history. To compare. Good Illustrations, and a nice layout of materials i.e. story and stills. C6

Have to admit I am a bit prejudiced in the positive direction here. I’m in the movie! Made it into one of the photos of the book too.
