This unique WRITING BOOK consists of a series of music history stories. Many of the words appear in notation so that the student will need to read notes in order to comprehend each composer's biography. The ""Music History Speller"" is recommended for all music students: instrumental, piano, and general classroom music. The contents are especially valuable for study in music appreciation classes. Music appreciation and note reading are developed simultaneously.

This book is old, as can be seen by the vocabulary words used that no one uses today, but it is still very useful in helping students to both learn letter names AND a little bit of musical history. I usually add to the info about the composers with tidbits of interesting facts about each of the composers. This book does not include composers from the Renaissance era, unfortunately. The test at the end is not a good test, so I have created my own test that will show me what the student has actually learned about note names and their corresponding keys. I place little score value on this book’s test, since it only asks the student to match the photo of the composer with their name. Overall, a good and fun way to learn note names.

Beautiful and intriguing book. Makes the student think about what notes are being shown, as well as learning history about several composers in the past. This is a fun and educational book that can be used to keep the student interested in learning how to read notes.
