If you grew up in a dysfunctional family like I did

This book has made all of my relationships more manageable. If you grew up in a dysfunctional family like I did, where communication usually happened in the form of guilt trips and passive aggression, this book can change your life. As soon as I started applying concepts like observing without judgment, communicating my needs and my feelings openly and honestly, asking for what would add joy to my life, and not taking ownership for other people’s feelings or responses to me, I noticed a change in how people in my life responded to me and my requests. People began to seem more open to hearing me, and normal every day conflicts can be addressed without people getting escalated.
Our Sane Society

We need to unlearn our way of communicating with each other. We hear the words people utter, but seldom do we care to understand what they are telling us about the other persons feelings and needs. Instead we judge, and share our reaction. This creates violence in relationships and societies. If we can train our ability to stay with each other long enough to empatize with the needs and feelings beeing expressed, we can change the way we feel, from alienated to connected. In his book Rosenberg teaches us how.

Such an interesting take on communication. The title should be just “communication”. The nonviolent is misleading. Love this book, it’s truly helpful!

We live in a world with more means of communication I than ever before, but we are perpetually getting worse at it. Rosenberg has blessed his reader with a gift, directing them in effective and peaceful ways to build and restore relationships through effective, nonviolent communication.
The simplest practice back to true freedom, connection and empowerment (for all!)

Marshall Rosenberg’s approach is the simplest roadmap I have ever encountered towards better relating to myself and others. It has been the most empowering journey to discover what is underneath all that we(/they) ever say or do, shed the masks and scripts that keep us disconnected from true living and give us back our greater voice and essence to make our (and all) life more wonderful. I am so grateful to have read this book a few years back, for the growth that unfolded and can’t think of any other book that is more life-changing than this one.

Many people practice the compassionate communication described in this book by Marshall Rosenberg. People gather in groups and work on stating their needs and feelings to each other. People do this because we are all conditioned culturally and religiously to deny our feelings and needs and then talk at each other out of those adpative denials and what we wind up doing is having conflict.
