I did not always adore the layout of the chapters, but this book is absolutely a great buy for History of Western Art Music courses or just for a resource. Having the matching textbook works great for the examples listed throughout that text. I was able to sell my bookstore copy of both materials to Amazon. I do wish the offered price for selling these was a tad greater considering what I paid, but it’s better than these sitting on my shelf collecting dust.

Must-have for music students.

These anthologies are breathtakingly expensive, but they are important to any music education because they are thoroughly comprehensive. Rather than provide a history of music, these recordings explain principles and ideas in a concrete way and present examples.

Nothing objectively wrong with it…

Needed it for a class. Serves its purpose well. Chronicles all necessary composers and their works.
