A lighthearted meditation on the philosophical quandaries of the hit television show The Big Bang Theory

Ever wonder what Aristotle might say about the life Sheldon Cooper leads? Why Thomas Hobbes would applaud the roommate agreement? Who Immanuel Kant would treat with "haughty derision" for weaving "un-unravelable webs?" And—most importantly—whether Wil Wheaton is truly evil? Of course you have. Bazinga!

This book mines the deep thinking of some of history's most potent philosophical minds to explore your most pressing questions about The Big Bang Theory and its nerdy genius characters. You might find other philosophy books on science and cosmology, but only this one refers to Darth Vader Force-chokes, cloning Leonard Nimoy, and oompa-loompa-like engineers. Fo-shizzle.Gives you irresistibly geek-worthy insights on your favorite Big Bang Theory characters, story lines, and ideasExamines important themes involving ethics and virtue, science, semiotics, religion, and the human conditionBrings the thinking of some of the world's greatest philosophers to bear on The Big Bang Theory, from Aristotle and Plato to Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Simone de Beauvoir, and more

Essential reading for every Big Bang Theory fan, this book explores whether comic-book-wielding geeks can lead the good life, and whether they can know enough science to "tear the mask off nature and stare at the face of God."

If you are a fan of The Big Bang Theory (TV show not the scientific theory) –and I am a fan — then this book is for you. Well, if you really hate philosophy then you may not like the book, which could mean that Sheldon Cooper wouldn’t like the book. After all, Sheldon sees no purpose for the humanities. Still, if you’re a fan you’ll like the book, at least I did.

knock, knock, knock- buy it x 3

I will assume that if you are a fan of this show, than you will be a fan of this book. First time I have purchased an audio style from this series, but will most likely do it again. I have a 7 hour car travel approximately 7 times a year and this was a great companion. In fact, darn near listened to it completely before choosing to switch to some music (and I love my music!). A fun way to broaden your knowledge of philosophy if you simply like to dabble. Even if you are seriously into philosophy, which I am, I think you would enjoy any of this series if you like whatever show or movie is covered. I have had several books already and enjoyed every one. They are fun, humorous and educational; A trifecta! Would be especially pleasant for those who like to stimulate their minds but reading has become impossible or too difficult.

I ordered this for my sister’s birthday and had it shipped to her house. I forgot to tell her about it, but she called me when it came in and asked if I had ordered it. I told her that I had and she was relieved. She said it looked like something she would have bought for herself and thought she might have been sleep shopping if I hadn’t ordered it. She loves the book and does not have to worry about maxing out her credit card in her sleep.

If you’re like me, college philosophy felt long, abstruse, and tiresome. It had no apparent connection to lived experience. No wonder Stanley Fish famously declared that “Philosophy doesn’t travel.” But Gerald Graff counters that all subjects, including philosophy, need a tangible debate to make them comprehensible. Connecting philosophy to something audiences share, like America’s top-rated television comedy, makes concepts suddenly human-scale and coherent. Eternal verities that seemed distant in classroom discussions become suddenly very immediate.

The wonderful world off geeks.
