I had never heard of Marilyn Horowitz before purchasing this book, but I don’t think I’ll forget her now. Even though this book is quite thin, I found this different take on how to structure a screenplay simple yet remarkably effective. It follows the basic three act structure (with the 2nd act broken into two parts), and uses a ‘magic’ question about the main characters for each act. I found looking at my story this way refreshing and believe it really nailed in the structure that my story should take. I’m not new to writing, so I think this book will suit both the beginner and the more experienced.

This book will keep your screenplay on track – with a solid structure, vivid characters, and strong plot-line. If you’re looking for a GPS to your best writing, this is the book for you and in addition to helping screenwriters, it works for novels, stage plays, graphic novels and webisodes and any story which is framed over the 3-act structure we all know and love. The workbook format draws the reader in, engaging them on a direct level and immersing them in the process. The simplicity, clarity, use of color design is fun and dilutes something seemingly so difficult to an essence – every writer should use this from the outset for the most direct route to writing faster, better.

The Four Magic Questions of Screenwriting work. I have worked with writers that are struggling to write their screenplays using the methods of Syd Field, Robert McKee and Vicki King. When I introduce them to the frameworks presented in the Four Magic Questions of Screenwriting and How to Write a Screenplay in 10 Weeks, their struggle ends. I fully endorse the Horowitz System. Not only will The Four Magic Questions make you a better screenwriter, if you apply them to your life, they wiil make you a better human being. – Ola Taiwo, Classroom 34
