Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.
In this lively and compelling account, Rubin chronicles her adventures during the twelve months she spent test-driving the wisdom of the ages, current scientific research, and lessons from popular culture about how to be happier. Among other things, she found that novelty and challenge are powerful sources of happiness; that money can help buy happiness, when spent wisely; that outer order contributes to inner calm; and that the very smallest of changes can make the biggest difference.

I actually received my copy of this book from a friend, and bought this copy for a different friend, so I’m not actually sure what quality the book was from this company, but the book itself is a really good read! Rubin is well researched and also passionate about her goal, which makes for a read chock-ful of quality quotes and solid advice on how to raise your happiness levels! I found it a reassuring read after a rough semester and will probably go back to it in the future for advice!

A lot of food for thought presented

Offered the opportunity to join a group and share my view point of this read almost a year ago, I missed the deadline. Despite of missing the expiration date for participating, out of curiosity, I decided to purchase and read the book anyway. I did take it upon myself to apply one of the suggested projects. After completing the one section on clutter, I was motivated to do just that…get rid of it. Due to the fact that my bedroom and office are set up as a dual studio,I must admit,it did make me feel better. This book included a lot of suggestions on how to get the initiation process started on multiple happiness task. Some I agreed with whole heartedly yet there were some statements/suggestions that in my opinion I feel Gretchen based her focus and choices directly from personal biased experience. This book however is a good read for anyone looking for self improvement with a happiness project or, for individuals trying to get their feet wet in the process. The tips enclosed towards the end of the book are a major plus.
