Legendary football coach Lou Holtz once said, ‘After the 1967 season, our entire staff was fired at South Carolina where I was an assistant. My wife bought me a book entitled The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. So I sat down and made a list of all the things I still wanted to accomplish in life, and there were 107 of them…my life changed after I made that list. I think I’ve accomplished 95 of them.’ After his stint at South Carolina, Holtz would assume the head coaching position at Notre Dame and win the national championship in 1988.

I first read this book forty years ago, and it was amazing to see how many of his principals were absorbed into my life and business practices. During my recent re-read, it was obviously a book written during a different era, but if you can look past the 1960 style examples and references, it’s filled with practical and inspiring advice. Would recommend this book to anyone… as the author says, there is indeed “magic” when you begin to think big instead of limiting your view of the world. Read this. You won’t regret the decision.

Every now and then, one read a book that truly inspires. This is exactly what David has achieved with the Magic of Thinking Big. Not only does he inspire “big” thinking, but he also takes it one step further to inspire action to make it happen. The book is filled with ideas and techniques that can be applied in our everyday life whether at home or at work. These are illustrated by real-life examples that the author draws upon – in which these techniques have proven further success, happiness, and satisfaction to those who have implemented them. Many of the ideas presented, constitute the basis for true leadership.

This book is full of energy and enthusiasm and packed with ideas on how to be more successful, more creative and more effective in many areas of your life. If you can overlook the fact that it’s main focus is on sales-type positions there is plenty to take away from this book. The author focusses on the one thing that moves you closer to your goals: appropriate and timely action. It won’t happen by thinking but by doing!

This book was a recommended read in a finance class I was taking at my church. The book will transform your thinking. It’s a great book chock full of encouragement, inspiration and real life stories of people who made a decision in essence to see their glass half full and not half empty. The book teaches that in order to overcome any fear or obstacle and truly live the life one desires. A person must have a can do attitude regardless of age, gender, education or intelligence. “The Magic of Thinking Big gives step by step instructions of living big in every area of your life (friends, wealth, respect etc). I highly recommend this one and one that should be read again and again.

After reading Tim Ferris 4-Hour Work Week, I was moved to action by Tim’s comment that Prof Schwartz’s Magic of Thinking Big is one of the best books he has ever read. That sealed my decision to buy this book. The book has its heart in the right place but falls short in the practice of the techniques Key takeaways,

Good review of success basics

By now this book might be considered a bit trite, as well as old-fashioned in its assumption that only men are going to think big and succeed – and that all success is basically in the workplace. Its redeeming feature is that, at the end of each section, each of which contains a couple of anecdotes illustrating the principle being prescribed, there are several practical things you can do to implement the specific principle into your daily ‘practice’. One of the best parts of buying it as a Kindle book is that each section is hyperlinked from the extensive table of contents, so you can easily review the tools applicable to any prescribed practice.

Good Book But Has Little Racism Towards Asian People

I like the way author tries to inspire by giving excerpts of real life stories but he also showed slight racism towards Asian people which isn’t expected from David otherwise book is good. I always use my own judgment rather than just reading & blindly following other people reviews.

This book allows you to see that if you disallow small things, negativity to not get into your head, and focus, dream, and think with higher standard when it comes to yourself, people, and those that work with you, that all is possible. Will definitely come back and read this over, and over again.
