The author states, ” we don’t have peace on earth because of people who know the truth and shove their reality down the throats of others.” Then he continues to state. ” No concept, theory, or word can ever contain the whole truth because everything is relative.” I don’t agree with his statements outright but there are partial truths to his notions. The primary downside to his theory is the fact that we do live in a world where influencing and persuading other individuals is a pertinent skill to master and this is never mentioned in the book and seen as inconsequential because we can construct our own reality and other peoples realities are moot . If you completely throw away hazard and dismiss societies notions and common perspectives then you may become ostracized. For example if a woman decides she doesn’t need to bathe anymore because it’s a waste of time and believes that anyone that has a problem with this ideology is inherently wrong. After a few months have transpired we see the apparent problem with the author’s mantra that we can create whatever meaning we want. That may be true but the woman in the example would probably be fired from her job and lose her friends due to her smell, but she may convince herself that she is happy with her beliefs even if her whole world falls apart. Thus, even though you changed your limiting beliefs and may be happier it doesn’t mean you will be more successful, but once again being successful is subjective and prone to manipulation through your limiting beliefs. The author also states there are no absolute truths. I disagree, I know of many absolute truths portrayed by God thus this is a spiritually guiding book but it readily dismisses religion as having subjective and fallible wisdom. The book also could have been a third of the size but this seems to be a commonality among most self-help literature. Overall, I postulate that the author’s theme that we have an innate ability to create our own experiences and reality by constantly shaping, molding, and creating meaning is mostly true and that in following his guidelines you can improve your life drastically, as I have improved my life concerning depression and its grasp on my reality but God has a place concerning truth and societal expectations also have their place to some degree. I give the idea and it’s implications 5 stars but the author’s writing style, overall coverage and implementation of theory, and dismissal of God or external events as having some importance 3 stars. Thus, I came up with my 4 star rating.

I dislike writing reviews. I never seem to say the right things to help someone else make up their minds to get a book or not. For me, it’s only a few things that make me enjoy a book. One-I like the writers style making it fun or comfortable to read. Two- I actually got something positive from reading, ie. Learned something, Three- I just get the feeling “it was worth my time to read it and I’m glad I did”, when I’ve finished a book.. THIS book scored on all 3 for me

Don’t let your own mind hold you back!

This book begins with the author’s intriguing declaration that “We are all living an illusion and mistaking it to be real. This illusion is the cause of all our suffering in life.” It goes on to emphasize that we, as human beings, create our own experience and shape all the meaning in our lives, that we live internally and our external experiences are actually internal representations, colored by our prejudices, understandings, and beliefs.

We can happily pass through live thinking that the earth is circling …

Some say that in the future we will be able to create and live in our virtual reality. However, the future has begun a long time ago and since the dawn of civilization every one has been living, to a different degree, in a virtual reality. We can happily pass through live thinking that the earth is circling around the sun on the back of a giant dragon. We could even decide to “develop” ourselves and follow some hollow theory or ideology, eagerly helped by the corrupt dealers of consensus reality, and reach the conclusion that “Well, it might not be a dragon but a sawn” and satisfied with this revelation go through life even happier. Since our birth we are handily given the tools and taught how to make our own prisons by schools, parents, friends and people of our social environment, politicians – sometimes well intentioned, sometimes not – especially in the case of politicians (however we should differentiate between politicians and statesmen). The book will be of great help to those never satisfied with the obvious, who are eager to question their every belief and take self-development seriously.

So what is this book really about? When I initially picked it up I was expecting another motivational self-help book, that tells you to blast through obstacles and reach your goals. Now even though the mind-made prison includes these aspects, it does so in a very different and quite refreshing way.

Have read other great books, but this one is wonderful.

I have read other self improvement books, but this one has the exact mixture of practicality and spirituality I wanted to get from a book of this kind. I also highly recommend “Love Yourself like your life depends on it” and “The Miracle Morning”, but please don’t miss this book to actually grow and really enjoy your life.

I Resonated Strongly with this Book!

I enjoy reading books on personal growth and development, as it’s an area I’m constantly working on! Now, I’ve read quite a few books in the field, and to be honest, I’m quite skeptical about many self published books simply because they appear to be written just to earn some extra money, and they lack substance and depth.

As a life coach and lifelong student of personal transformation I do a lot-and I do mean A LOT- of reading on the topic; it has gotten to the point that pretty much no book impresses me in any way. Having said that I was completely impressed with Mind-Made Prison. We’ve heard it a thousand times: you create your own reality, like attracts like, blah, blah, blah. So many books just leave it at that and leave out clear cut instructions on just how to apply that way of being and thinking. This book does just that- give clear cut instructions on how to tap into your intuition and change your thoughts and beliefs so that you create and live the life of your dreams. Among its many lessons, you will learn how to properly execute affirmations in order to actually create change (hint: your feelings have a lot to do with it as I tell my clients quite often). I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to create real and lasting change in his or her life- truly excellent.
