My wife and I are movie fans…though not like those hard core guys who hang out at independent film festivals…and we love this book.

I have recently bought over ten movie business making books, all starting with this one. I would have to say that out of all of the books I have read thought, this would have to be the best out of them all. Not only do they have chapters written by different people, they are all people that are in the business. They break down hollywood lingo and include a basic pay structure. This book is the most informative of the film books I have read. This is the book you buy if you want a break down of movie careers, but not for how to personally make it yourself into the business.

Good for someone who already knows a bit about the business or A business. Almost seems like perfect validation for what you already know. Some entries run on for too long.

Very well curated. Even though it probably needs an update, mainly because it is so useful and there are things to add to the industry analysis, there are solid, articles here by top industry people. Experienced advice and analysis of the biz from the horse’s mouth is golden no matter what decade it’s coming from.

If you have any interest in making movies (which I assume you would if you were reading reviews on a book called “The Movie Business Book”) this book is essential. Read it twice before you make your first film and save yourself a lot of headaches and heartaches. Sure it doesn’t answer everything, but it says way more than the price tag would suggest. Commit to reading it, or find another industry to work in. Also, if you are an actor (and you can read), it’s time well spent.

I enjoyed reading this book

I enjoyed reading this book. It features authors with industry experience, avoids jargon, and is an all-rounder. A sequel, if I can make a wish, should be trying to provide more representative facts on the matters discussed in addition to key individuals’ insights. It’s hard to tell how unique these experiences are.

This is an absolutely fantastic book.

This is an absolutely fantastic book. It is a series of essays from very well known industry professionals and will help anyone to better understand the perspective of the other people you’re working with on the set.

I work in home video content in the back office. This book gives a great overview of the industry and how it works. I own a copy and bought another for a new employee. Highly recommended.
