Every professional musician, music student, and music lover should read this book. It covers the music history from Gregorian Chant to our years in a simple and concise way. Each chapter features maps, scores, and charts that help the comprehension of the topic covered. Perhaps the authors spend far too many pages on American composers, but that’s the way things are done in that part of the world. It is a heavy book, and perhaps it would be best if it was sold in two volumes.
