I have tried it all, it seems. This book is FINALLY the one! Teaching writing to one of my children has been like trying to teach a fish to do tricks–it has been the bane of my homeschooling career thus far. Every other book we’ve tried has been miserable, with the child just not able to “get” it. This is the one that makes sense to her.

Excellent (so far)

When we thought we had run out of options for our child, this turned out to be a very good planner for daily practice; methodical in nature; simplified in process (Day1, Day 2, etc…). A refreshing alternative at a meager price. Look forward to using it with all the kids! Excellent if parent/guardian is able to do this along with your child.

mom and kid approved! love it

As a homeschool family we are always on the hunt for great curriculum…this hits the mark. My kids actually enjoy doing these lessons. I overheard one asking their sibling if they saw the days lesson yet, and commenting they really enjoyed it, ‘wait till you see it, I really liked it’. Can’t get any better than that. It really strengthens writing skills and continues to lay a strong foundation for critical thinking and observational reading. I love that the reading excerpts are from REAL literature…not made up stories to prove a point. Often they are from books they have already read, or better yet, other Susan Bauer books (which we love, such as Story of the World) really emphasizing spiral learning. Thanks for another home run Susan! I can see my children being extremely well prepared for college if you complete all the books in this series, I am thoroughly impressed and my children’s writing is already showing improvement. For reference my children are in middle school.

My daughter loves this curriculum! She looks forward to it every day. She loves the excerpts that she reads and the challenges given. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a great, creative way to inspire your young ones about writing.

I have used this author’s material for years. I also taught the first volume in this series. I NEVER have to worry that my student is lacking in any skill when this course if finished. All the bases are covered in a through and interesting way. It is one of the curriculums that I never have to second guess as a teacher.

I have used Writing With Skill, Level 1 and Level 2 for two of my children. I use Level 1 for 7th grade and Level 2 for 8th grade. They seem very age appropriate while stretching my kids. I really like these books and wish I had had this instruction when I was in junior high. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out how long each week’s assignments will take. Some weeks are definitely easier than others. However, if I spend some time looking at them ahead of time, I can usually figure out what will work with our schedule. My children are also pretty happy with the curriculum and don’t complain too much about it. It is the best writing curriculum I have found so far and I highly recommend it.

Great content. Would benefit from cleaner layout/design.
